I don't think you were off base. If he doesn't want to follow your advise let him screw it up and blow it up. Hmmm a sub on fire would not be a pretty sight.

You're not off base, Ollie. You're right on the money.
I'm not as technically "smart" about that kind of stuff but even I can see it.
Those guys are complete idiots!.
And the one calls himself an electrician! Any fool can see that the amp is shutting down to protect itself from blowing completely. A real electrician would KNOW that and would NOT recommend bypassing this safety feature.

When it blows up because the owner muleheadedly ignores good advice and persists in going by their own wrong assumptions, it's beyond pretty, it's BEAUTIFUL, MAN!

Wow. If you have pennies in your fusebox, then you have much bigger electrical problems. LOL
Didn't they make the move to breakers (distibution boxes) way back in the 50's and 60's?
Either way, they don't allow fuse boxes these days because they can be dangerous.
Please be careful taking out the pennies.
When your house goes dark, you'll know you got them all.
