I'd like to turn my desktop computer into a karaoke machine. My idea is to hook up the computer to my large screen television where it will display the video and sing along text.

What hardware and software do I need to do this?

Thanks!

-Kevin

Plextor cd drive to rip and play cd+g
Video card with tv out I would suggest one that has at least 64 meg of video ram.

cd+g plug in for win amp it's free.

A basic mixer
Look at berhinger they are inexpensive

a mic or 2 and cables.

I REALLY love the Tricerasoft Swift Elite Hoster. They also now have a 2.0 version that I have not used yet.
http://www.tricerasoft.com

It is expensive but WELL worth it! It make it so easy to make a super pro looking show. They even have a free working demo of the software you can download.

Another thing is they support things like DJ console controllers and DMX lights!
and if you buy an ATI All-in-Wonder video card it comes with an RF remote that works with the software.

they also offer a CD+G ripper so that your entire karaoke library can be searched and cued in literally seconds.

You can also type in who the next singer is and it displays on the screen so they can get ready.

To do what you're suggesting you'll need a video card with the capability to run dual screens, most will have either a TV out or (shoot, can't remember offhand what it's called) the connection to run into a plasma or flat screen monitor.  After you have that it's very simple.
