The only problem with "Just do a better show" is the other show jeopardizes everyone's livilihood just by being there if they are illegal. If the bar gets sued, everyone could lose their shows. The bar should at least be made aware of the issue which can be done just by handing them some materials or copy of a news article or something. Accusations don't have to be made. Just give the owner a bit of education about the karaoke business so they can make informed decisions.

I've never seen literature or anything change anyone's mind about the business. I've seen a couple of perfectly legal folks go that route with a competitor with no success. In fact at one venue the information was enough to kill the idea of them doing Karaoke entirely if they think they can get sued over it.

I was told the conversation with the owner went; "Sued? Karaoke can get me sued? I should go with you because you're a legal host? I believe you simply because you're telling me about this? I think karaoke isn't worth the risk." The show was canceled not because of the pirate but the fear of a lawsuit.

I'll take the risk and keep the show pumping. No worse than the 4 SM58's I bought off of Craig's list only to have the police call me and come get them because they were stolen.

Wow, the same thing just happened to me except the guy he's trying out is giving the first 2 nights free and only charging 50 a night after that. I charge 125. I can see what's going to happen to me 2000 miles away.

I agree with leopard. Personally if the owners aren't willing to listen to the lawsuits they could be in for I'd walk. I'd rather loose a show than to fall into the lawsuit because they think you are connected with the other guy.
