I just kind of stumbled across this forum while googling for karaoke information, and I do have quite a few questions concering equipment, discs, and businesses, but before I get into all of that, I wanted to take a moment to say... "Hey".

I discovered how much fun Karaoke can be when I bought a LeadSinger karaoke system for my daughter about 2 years ago and hooked it into my home surround sound system.

About a year later, I upgraded to an Acesonic player and really kicked things up a notch.

It was at that point that I begain having karaoke parties at my home and it found it to be extremely fun to have friends and family over to sing on key, severely off key, and everything in between.

My current collection is over 1,000 songs with no duplicates. It is exactly 1244 songs with the duplicates included, and I am currently waiting on my Sound Choice Headbangers set that is absolutely going to rock the house!

I have a dream of opening my very own Karaoke Bar but it is a very scary prospect especially with today's economy. My wife, however, if very supportive of it and is hoping that it happens for both of us as we are looking for something we would enjoy getting paid for rather than dreading going in to work every day. Sound familiar?

I am sure I will post more on the matter as I familiarize myself with your forum. Until then, "Nice to meet ya'". :)

 Thank you. :)

I am definitely a child of the 80's and I was deep in the whole Hair Metal scene. I'm talking the big hair, the leather pants, the spiked bracelets... the whole crazy package!

Now I look back on it and realize how cheesy it was, but those were some damn good times!! 8)

EDIT: Just so you know, I did not use the words "gosh darn" in my original reply. The board censors got me!! Damn dirty apes!!

Welcome aboard !

I've always thought a bar dedicated to karaoke would be a huge success, but I've never seen one. I know karaoke is the one thing that makes the place I work stay in business. It just makes sense. Godd luck on what ever you decide.

Well, I'm hoping. :)

The hard part is getting it rolling. It seems like its going to take quite a bit up front, but if I can hit it right, it should get quite the business from several colleges in the immediate area.

I would like to set aside a night for younger singers where the alcohol is put away, or a night for the older crowd that might focus on acts like Frank Sinatra or Elvis.

I'm thinking I would also like to do some theme nights as well as create a tongue n' cheek version of American Idol contests. I think it might be fun to have people dress up in 70's or 80's best in order to sing a few classics and get a discount on drinks for the extra effort.

And then there is the subject of Pub Food. I enjoy cooking for a crowd, but I'm not so sure I want to get into that kind of red tape and headache.

Its just all a matter of getting it all up and jumping before I realize how broke I really am. :)

Just remember most businesses don't see a profit for 2 to 3 yrs. You may strike gold with this idea though.

A karaoke crowd on my estimate takes a good 6 months to a year to establish if you are starting from scratch.

Here's an idea:

Under 21 permitted from 12:00 to 5 pm no liquor served. Pizza parties and soda etc..

6pm and on, adults only

Your idea isn't a bad one, and would probably work well during Summer breaks, but much of the stuff I listed above is "down the road" ideas anyway. When I first open, my target crowd is definitely going to be adults as I plan on spreading the word through several well known college papers and adult radio stations that include the rock stations, adult contemporary and country. After I've built up a steady crowd, I will probably advertise on the pop stations that many teenagers listen to.

I'm also counting on some of the parents wanting to get their kids involved from time to time. Every single girl I know has dreams of being the next American Idol. I realize that alcohol is where the most revenue is, but at some point, it would be nice to offer some nights that the whole family can enjoy. :)

Cool !! A lover of the 80's much like myself !! Welcome aboard, hope everything works out for you. I've always wanted to open a bar / club, and it would be called " Metal Heaven ". LOL !! I've always wanted a place where my friends and I could hang, drink, and bang our heads till we just couldn't do it anymore !! I'm a metal singer from way back, and I've noticed kids at my karaoke shows seem to be really getting into the classics, ( and I'm glad to see it !!). Once again, good luck, keep on bangin' !! Thanks man! I tried singing in a band in high school but it didn't work out.

My 15 year old daughter loves Guns N Roses and tells me that GNR, AC/DC and The Rolling Stones are very popular at her school.

Her mom was pregnant with her when we went to see GNR, Metallica and Faith No More in concert. I joke about that being her first one.

And when she was a baby, she loved hearing me sing Cats in the Cradle as performed by Ugly Kid Joe.

Shes also into the newer stuff like 3 Days Grace and Staind and I'm into stuff like Godsmack and Disturbed!

*wipes a tear away*

I'm so proud of her.

why would you presume its wicked?
I'm Pagan but I dont consider myself wicked...Oh wait a minute...a few do think of me that way ;-) But on the whole I am benign

I was actually referring to your animated gifs and nickname. The gifs are obvious and Morgan LeFey was known for being quite wicked was she not? As far as Paganism, I'm cool with it. :)

ACTUALLY whether she was wicked is open for debate. She was priestess trained that is for sure, and certainly well versed in herbology.
There are two schools of thought...the most common is that she produced a son with her half brother Arthur...the other is that it was her sister Morgause that bore Mordred...certainly Morgause raised him.

There were many who feared her...but then when we have been living in a "mans" world for so many hundreds of years, its hard to imagine that women could once have been tribal leaders and feared and revered.

Boudicca, formerly better known as Boadicea is probably the most famous woman warrior of early britain...she certainly gave the Romans a run for their money
