Subject: Re: Pirates who SWEAR they are not pirates are insulting to me, LOL!
Posted: Tue Mar 09, 2010 11:35 pm (GMT -8)

Do you mean canard? cant find a meaning for Cunnard anywhere.

The suggestion that the person in question is apparently claiming to be a music PUBLISHER, otherwise they could not be simultaniously a member of both ASCAP AND BMI.
ONLY PUBLISHERS CAN BE IN BOTH GROUPS.

The purpose of the groups is to collect money and pay SONGWRITERS for public performance of their music. That includes cover versions of those songs being performed by ANY artists who did not write the songs themselves. THe publishers are allowed to join the groups because they often aquire the rights or act as agents for the SONGWRITERS.

Now I find it very doubtful that this person has rights to the thousands of songs from the origional songwriters or is acting as thier agent. I also find it pretty useless to have thousands of songs that this guy may have written himself as karaoke versions.

So all that is going on here is that a person is claiming to have not violated rules of an organization that does not govern his "crimes". Music publishers and artists are the force against the song copying piracy, not ASCAP/BMI.

I stand by my statement that he has no need to be a member either group as a PUBLISHER for his activities regarding karaoke. If he is a artist in his own right and he made some karaoke versions of his own songs, then he could not be a member of both, he would have to choose one or the other.

Sure he could be a "member" of either group, but he would just be paying registration fee, and then be ignored by them because I doubt he has any songs getting any radio play which is how the reimbursment is calculated.

But with the origional post the he is talking about "DUES" and ASCAP/BMI do charge a fee to join (registration fee) for musicians/publishers. That is the DUES the origional post talked about. The fees that ASCAP/BMI charge venues are not membership dues.

On a secondary note, 150,000 songs in a 500 gb hard drive is not high enough sampling rates to be high quality. The songs sold by tricerasoft are about 6-7 mb on average ZIPPED. That means 150,000 songs should take up nearly 900 GB if sampled at a reasonable bitrate even if they are zipped, unzipped it would be far more.

I own one, and I like it. I also use a dual set at my service club for about 70 gigs a year. They are durable, have consistent off-axis response, and give you a no-kidding 30 hours on a single AA alkaline. They have been in use 6 times a month for over two years now, with no trouble at all. Bought them on recommendation from here along with talking to a KJ who I found using them.

We use them as our drunk mics, and though they don't sound as good as the SM58s they sound decent. Many singers think they prefer them -- possibly for their nice light feel of control. I far prefer the SM58, and give those to singers I think might care.

Most importantly, they have a very good compander and don't do the overload/buzzing/distortion thing I hear with most cheap mics. They are slightly better than the VocoPro 5800, and quite a bit more durable. (They don't seem that they would be, but they are.)

The combination of that and an SM58 (we have wireless for most uses, wired for the stage) gives both the pro and the drunk what they want.
_________________
Mickey J.

Try Selectatrack - they have A TON of Gaga....In fact I ordered Telephone Song with Gaga and Beyonce...and Again Again; Boys, Boys, Boys; and Beautiful Dirty Rich. Gaga goes over HUGE at my shows...Especially Bad Romance. Place can be dead quiet comparatively. I sing Bad Romance and the metabolic rate in the room flies.
Hi,

This Vocopro effects processor I have is just too darn noisy in my rig. Everything I try and I just can't rid the system of its noise. When I take it outta the chain it's a pretty quite system, well within reason. So...

What are you folks using?

I need it to be a rack unit, 1u preferably.

Thx,

Pocket Songs has Whenever, Wherever, Whatever by Maxwell--PSG1322 or PSG1505. Express Karaoke and Karaoke.com carry it but it is $20-$22 for just 6 or so songs.
The Sound Choice catalog is a little thin on Chicago... It COULD be a licensing issue, as most of the songs they did do are on way older Spotlights. It didn't make the cut on the CB disk either, apparently.

As for the Shai song, it didn't crack the top 40 on the US Hot 100 back in 95. The Maxwell song didn't even crack the top 50 on the R&B chart. While chart performance is no indication of how good a song is, history indicates that non-current songs GENERALLY did fairly well on the charts or had some kind of renaissance, like on a commercial or something. These and the other songs you mentioned likely slipped through the cracks, failing to generate sufficient interest from the manufacturers.

ETA: I did a kjpro search to see what you meant regarding Lady Gaga. I had more than 4 matches. I'm not a "member" or log on to do my searches. i'm at a loss why you had such few search returns.
Feeble attempts to belittle others who call you out on your errors are but one of your traits. Weaknesses in comprehension and spelling are obviously two more!

This quote is another fine example of your stating false facts. I have been fully aware that the "member in good standing" statement is a canard since I first read this thread and long before you posted your reply in so rudely in upper case.
Are you running the vocals out of the player? The mike inputs on most cdg players are not really good to use. get an outside mixer.
on the remote, it should have volume buttons. use that to adjust the volume.
_________________
Note: statements made in my posts should be taken as opinions rather than law as I only state from my experiences info I think might be helpful for others. Hey, new here. I just bought a CDG player / karaoke machine off ebay. I also bought a CDG off ebay. Problem is that the audio on the CD is pretty high and i cant get the vocal mix right. Are the CD's on ebay not good to buy or is it the unit? I am running it through a receiver and out to floor speakers. Here is the unit i bought. Thanks for any help!

I remember when Amerising 1504 was a highly sought after disk. But with the advent of SBI and their AIC, you really can't give that disk away anymore. Sure it's "rare" in the sense that it's hard to find, but it won't get any use in your rig anymore.

As KJs we pay into ASCAP/BMI directly or indirectly (through the venue). Paying either organization for performances does not make you a member.

Fred,

Don't be mislead by Murray C. who is hung up on the term "member"

Those who contract for the services of any of those royalty agencies are referred to as "members" just as those who join a gym are called "members". The big difference between being a member of ASCAP OR BMI is THEY PAY YOU while you have to pay the gym.

And if you don't pay the gym on time you might no longer be considered a "member in good standing" and if you stop paying altogether they probably will drop you from their "membership" rolls and sue you if you signed a contract!

Again, back to my original post, my point was AND STILL IS THAT the "member in good standing" reference made by the "THIEF" was a CUNNARD that just continues to go over the head of Murray C.

If Murray C could show that anyone other than a publisher, author or composer is a "member" and NOT A CLIENT of any of those groups that would be even more revealing!

And if Murray C can show provide me a reason, other than plagiarism, that a member of ASCAP would not be considered a member in good standing I would welcome the information because that goes to the essence of my original post regardless of how confused someone might be over the term member! And that, again, assumes that the THIEF is either a publisher, composer or author/lyricist!

Still don't get it?

I am graphically inclined, and am currently gathering testimonials to put together a full color brochure. I have already sent out packets to every bar in a 40 mile radius, and only booked one night as a direct response. Now it is time to follow up with other bars. I'm also looking for a part time job and going to sign up for the census job. It should also be noted that Bu August I'll be moving to North Carolina anyways, to finish my graphic design degree and move to warmer weather and a better economy.

So, considering those circumstances, if it is only going to be another 4-5 months, maybe I should just suck it up on the pay, IDK. We will see. What would be perfect is to find another bar that wants Sunday karaoke then drop this one like a bad habit!
Obviously people are not familiar with these cables in here, I knew they're more for studio but I was just checking

I only wished I had never tested them, I simply can't use anything else anymore
